Get ready to hit a homerun with the Pensacola Pelicans and WSRE, PBS for the Gulf Coast. The 2008 Scoop's Reading Challenge is right around the corner! Teachers, sign your classroom up today! Registration deadline is Feb. 8, 2008.


Taking part in Scoop's Reading Challenge provides an opportunity for students to expand their literary horizons beyond the classroom. This incentive-based program is free to your school and is easily adaptable for any curriculum or grade level.


Getting Signed -
Each school should choose a Program Coordinator, who will be the liason between your school and the Pelicans. Individual teachers register their classrooms for the program which runs March 5 - April 16, 2008. To get things started, each student will receive a cool bookmark!


The Game Plan -
Participants are encouraged to read a total of 4 reading assignments over a six-week period to complete the program. Teachers assign appropriately challenging reads (books, articles, etc.) for students based on courseload and individual skill level.


Rounding the Bases -
The program is set up on a "base" system; for each completed assignment, the student may advance to the next base and receive a ticket voucher to a 2008 Pelicans game.  Each student can earn up to 4 tickets!


All Stars -
As an extra bonus, three “All-Star” readers in your classroom who demonstrate outstanding participation in Scoop’s Reading Challenge will receive free Pelicans Kids Club memberships!
